Information pursuant to EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for participants in the ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating 2020

Messe Berlin GmbH attaches great importance to data protection. This information notice informs you about the processing of your personal data in relation to the ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating. This notice supplements our General Data Protection Policy, which can be found at https://www.messe-berlin.de/Datenschutz.

1. Controller and data protection officer
Messe Berlin GmbH, Messedamm 22, 14055 Berlin, Germany, E-mail: central@messe-berlin.de, is responsible for the data processing (so-called controller within the meaning of GDPR) in relation to this event and service provider (further information as regards the latter can be found in our imprint). 2. Categories of personal data
The following categories of personal data of exhibitors, blogger and journalists who register for the ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating will be processed in relation to the ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating:

2.1. Registration as blogger

  • Registration data, in particular user name, email address, salutation, given name and surname of the participant and their address and country.
  • Information concerning blog-website, in particular name of the blog, brief description, topic categories, language, link to the media kit, website of the blog, blog links to Facebook, YouTube and Instagram (where available). This is not personal data.
  • User account data (user name and password) and activities in the Matchmaking Tool, in particular proposed or selected actions (e.g., request or cancel appointment, find meeting partner, block time) of yourself or your meeting partners as well as of requested and blocked appointments and the date, time and location of those meetings.

2.2. Registration as exhibitor

  • Registration data, in particular user name, email address, salutation, given name and surname of the participant, firm and topic categories you are interested in.
  • Information concerning the exhibitor company, in particular firm, hall, stand number, brief description in German and English and the website. This is not personal data.
  • User account data (user name and password) and activities in the Matchmaking Tool, in particular proposed or selected actions (e.g., request or cancel appointment, find meeting partner, block time) of yourself or your meeting partners as well as of requested and blocked appointments and the date, time and location of those meetings.

2.3. Registration as journalist

  • Registration data, in particular user name, e-mail address, salutation, given name and last name of the participant, medium.
  • Information concerning the medium, in particular name of the medium / company, short description in German and English, language and link to the medium. This is not personal data.
  • User account data (user name and password) and activities in the Matchmaking Tool, in particular proposed or selected actions (e.g., request or cancel appointment, find meeting partner, block time) of yourself or your meeting partners as well as of requested and blocked appointments and the date, time and location of those meetings.

3. Purpose and legal basis of the processing

3.1. We process the personal data for your participation in the "ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating" event staged as part of ITB Berlin 2020.
We may contact you, including by e-mail, to assist in case of questions, including for technical support regarding your access and use of the Matchmaking Tool, and to provide you with an overview, suggestions and recommendations regarding meetings (legal basis: performance of a contract with Messe Berlin GmbH (Art. 6 (1) lit. b)GDPR)).

According to the standard settings, only the basic data (company name, hall/booth number, name of the participating person and the country as well as products and services interests) will be shown in the Matchmaking Tool and thus be available to other registered users of the Matchmaking Tool. You can freely decide to also disclose your contact details (e-mail adress) by changing those settings.

3.2. Furthermore, we process the personal data for the purpose of contacting you for marketing purposes in order to provide you with additional information regarding the ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating including side-events, the ITB as well as subsequent events. Subsequent events mean other trade fairs staged or conducted by Messe Berlin GmbH in Germany and abroad. To that end, we also pass on your data to other companies within our company group. (legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing optimal support to our customers and promotion of identical and similar products from the trade fair portfolio of our group of companies (Art. 6 (1) lit. f)GDPR)). There is the right to object this (see “Your rights” in section 8 below).

3.3. Your registration with ITB Blogger Speed Dating 2020 ensures your listing in the digital matchmaking platform envisaged for the "ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating" event so that you can find and be found by suitable dates, and be able to participate in the event locally at ITB Berlin 2020. Only registered participants with fixed agreed dates can attend the ITB Blogger Speed Dating event to take part in those agreed meetings.
The matchmaking tool only presents your basic data (personal name, company name/blog name, website, topic categories, brief description of your company, outline description of blog, media kit and links to social media) but not your personal email or telephone number. To create your personal profile in our matchmaking tool, we process your data on the basis of your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) 1st sentence lit. a GDPR. Please note your right to object to this (see below "Your rights").

3.4. We would also like to point out that for better technical support in response to your problems with the digital platform and to support matching among the participants themselves, we can access participant accounts and continuously monitor the registration process. We may also contact you to provide individual information. This is done on the basis of Art. 6 (1) 1st sentence lit. f GDPR, and is in the legitimate interest of Messe Berlin in enabling you and the other participants to enjoy successful networking in ITB Blogger Speed Dating 2020. Please note your right to object to this (see below "Your rights").

4. Sources and recipients of the personal data
The personal data originate from your application and registration for ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating.

Through the Matchmaking Tool, the personal data are visible to other registered users of the Matchmaking Tool.

The Matchmaking Tool is hosted and supported by a service provider who processes the personal data on our behalf. Other service providers (e.g., e-mail providers, IT and hosting companies) who may assist us in providing services to you for the afore-mentioned purposes (see Section 3 above) may also process the personal data on our behalf.

5. Data transfer to third countries
Some of the foreign representatives, companies of the Messe Berlin group of companies, partner companies or processors are based in third countries outside the EU, which do not provide the same level of protection for the personal data as the EU, in particular due to the absence of a legal framework, independent supervisory authorities or data protection rights and remedies. We will only transfer personal data to those countries if the European Commission ("EU Commission") has adopted an adequacy decision in this respect (this is the case for our foreign representatives in Andorra, Argentina, Canada, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, Switzerland and Uruguay) (Art. 45 GDPR) or otherwise where appropriate safeguards in accordance with Art. 46 GDPR have been provided, in particular standard data protection clauses adopted by the EU Commission pursuant to Art. 46 (2) lit. c GDPR. 6. Storage period
In general, we erase your personal data when participation in ITB Media & Blogger Speed Dating 2020 ends. Erasure may be prevented in certain circumstances by statutory regulations, in particular with respect to data for legal purposes. In that case, the data will be erased at the next possible date.

In so far as the processing is based on your consent, we will stop the processing after you revoke your consent. In so far the processing is based on your legitimate interest, we will stop processing it with effect for the future, once you object and no statutory exception is met.

7. Your rights
Pursuant to Art. 12-21 GDPR, you can assert the following data subject rights at any time: the right to access, erasure and rectification of your personal data, the right to data portability and the right to restriction of processing. If the processing is based on legitimate interests (Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR), you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data for reasons relating to your particular situation. Furthermore, you may object to the processing of the personal data for marketing purposes at any time. If you have given us your consent, you can revoke this consent at any time with effect for the future. If you are of the opinion that the data processing violates data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority of your choice (Art. 77 GDPR in conjunction with section 19 of the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz)).To exercise your rights, you can contact the person responsible (for contact details see point 1 above).
